About Flower Child

From a single Phoenix store to ~32 healthy fast-casual locations across the Southwest.

Flower Child was founded in 2014 by Sam Fox in Phoenix, Arizona. Fox already had a portfolio of celebrated higher-end concepts through Fox Restaurant Concepts — True Food Kitchen, North Italian, Olive & Ivy, Culinary Dropout, Blanco Tacos & Tequila, The Henry — and created Flower Child to be the faster, more affordable sister brand to True Food Kitchen. Same Happy Healthy Food philosophy (organic, locally-sourced, anti-inflammatory ingredients), lower price point ($13-$18 entrées vs. $18-$28 at True Food), faster service format.

The brand expanded steadily from Phoenix through Arizona, then into California (Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County), Texas (Dallas, Houston, Austin), Colorado, the Carolinas and the DC/Maryland corridor. ~32 locations as of early 2026. Acquired by Fox Restaurant Concepts' parent The Cheesecake Factory in 2019 for a reported $80M, with Sam Fox continuing as founder/CEO of the FRC brands through 2023.

The signature "Mother Earth Bowl" launched in 2014 and remains the best-selling item across every location. The brand publishes its sourcing standards and ingredient origin at iamaflowerchild.com — a level of transparency unusual in fast casual.

Is Flower Child vegan friendly?

Yes — Flower Child is among the most vegan-friendly fast-casual chains in the U.S. The Vegan Lover Bowl ($13.50), Mother Earth Bowl ($13.95, vegetarian-default but easily vegan), Forbidden Rice Bowl, Glow Bowl, Mr. Pink Bowl, Crispy Tofu Bowl, Original Chopped Salad, Wonder Woman Salad, Vegan Banh Mi Wrap, Avocado Hummus Wrap and most sides (coconut curry cauliflower, sweet potato hash, forbidden rice, marinated kale) are fully plant-based. Every menu item is clearly labeled with V (vegan) or GF tags.

What is the Mother Earth Bowl?

The Mother Earth Bowl ($13.95) is Flower Child's most iconic signature bowl. It combines ancient grains (quinoa + farro blend), roasted sweet potato, portobello mushroom, avocado, cucumber, charred onion, broccoli pesto and red pepper miso vinaigrette. It's vegetarian as served and easily made vegan by skipping any optional cheese. About 600 calories, packed with plant-based protein, fiber and healthy fats. Available at every Flower Child location since launch in 2014.

Who founded Flower Child?

Flower Child was founded in 2014 by Sam Fox in Phoenix, Arizona. Fox is the founder of Fox Restaurant Concepts, the parent company behind several other notable American restaurant brands including True Food Kitchen (also healthy-focused), North Italia, Olive & Ivy, Culinary Dropout, Blanco Tacos & Tequila and The Henry. Flower Child was created to be a faster, more casual sister concept to True Food Kitchen — same Happy Healthy Food philosophy, lower price point, faster service.

Is Flower Child cheaper than Sweetgreen?

Yes — slightly. A signature Flower Child bowl runs $13.50-$14.50 vs. Sweetgreen signature bowls at $13.99-$15.99. Mother Earth Bowl $13.95 vs. Sweetgreen Harvest Bowl $13.99 — roughly equivalent. Flower Child includes more cooked-warm components (roasted veg, ancient grains, mushrooms) where Sweetgreen leans heavily on raw greens. Heavy presence in Arizona (Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tucson, Tempe — birthplace and HQ), California (Los Angeles, San Diego, Newport Beach, Sherman Oaks), Texas (Dallas, Houston, Austin), Colorado (Denver), and growing presence in Atlanta, Washington DC, Maryland and the Carolinas.
