About

About Taxi Kitchen

Taxi Kitchen has occupied one of Melbourne's most coveted dining addresses since 2004, when it opened as the fine-dining Taxi Dining Room above Federation Square. In 2014, the venue shed its white-tablecloth formality and relaunched as Taxi Kitchen — a more casual, share-plate-driven concept with the same spectacular panoramic views of Flinders Street Station, St Paul's Cathedral, and the Yarra River winding toward the MCG.

The kitchen draws its identity from two culinary traditions: the larder of modern Australia, with its emphasis on provenance-driven produce such as Hazeldene chicken and Western Plains pork, and the dynamic flavour traditions of Asia, expressed through Szechuan duck, crystal-skin prawn dumplings, X.O. scallops, and Filipino kinilaw ceviche. The result is a menu that shifts with the seasons under monthly chef's showstopper specials, while maintaining core signatures that regulars return for again and again. The wine programme has earned national recognition, winning Australia's Wine List of the Year Awards in 2025.

Now celebrating over two decades in Melbourne's dining scene, Taxi Kitchen accommodates guests from solo diners to groups of up to 300 for cocktail events, offering private dining rooms and semi-private spaces alongside the main dining room. Whether guests arrive for the $65 Feed Me Lunch or a special-occasion Showstopper tasting dinner, the combination of city views, bold food, and award-winning wine continues to make it one of the CBD's most compelling tables.
