About

About Warung Mini

Warung Mini was founded over 35 years ago by 'Oom' and 'Tante' — a couple who set out to share the flavours of Indonesian, Javanese, and Surinamese cooking with Rotterdam. Their mission was simple: make the rich food traditions of the Dutch Caribbean and Indonesian archipelago accessible to everyone in the neighbourhood. Starting from a small takeaway counter on Witte de Withstraat, the restaurant quickly built a loyal following drawn by dishes like saoto soup, gado gado, and fragrant nasi goreng that tasted like home.

Today, Warung Mini operates two adjoining premises on the same street. The Mini53 counter at number 53A specialises in fast takeaway and catering, open from 11:00 daily and also available to order online via minibezorgd.nl. The main restaurant at number 47B offers a more relaxed sit-down experience open from noon. Both kitchens prepare the same menu of over 110 dishes spanning white rice plates, fried rice, thin noodles (tjauwmin), roti parcels, soups, and an extensive range of Surinamese sandwiches and specialties.

What makes Warung Mini distinctive is the breadth of its menu — from delicate boja cassava cake and spekkoek layered spice cake, to hearty rames combination plates and coconut-scented dessert drinks like dawet and markoesa. The kitchen also caters to vegetarians and people with allergies, noting 14 allergen categories on every menu item. Catering is available for events, and the restaurant closes only on public holidays — a testament to how much the neighbourhood depends on it.
