About Prime 112

The modern steakhouse that changed American dining.

Prime 112 opened on January 2, 2004, in the historic Brown's Hotel at 112 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach. Chef Myles Chefetz and partner David Grutman reimagined the steakhouse from the ground up: bright lighting instead of dark leather, a high-energy South Beach soundtrack, and a chef-driven menu that treated sides as headliners. The Truffled Lobster Mac n Cheese and Kobe Beef Sliders that debuted on that first menu are still on the card today.

The restaurant is part of the Myles Restaurant Group, which also operates Prime Italian, Prime Fish, Big Pink and the Prime Hotel, all on South Beach.

Common questions

Prime 112 menu — frequently asked questions

Quick answers to what people most commonly search about Prime 112's menu, prices, reservations and experience.

What makes Prime 112 different from other steakhouses?

Prime 112 is credited as the first modern steakhouse in the United States when it opened on January 2, 2004. Unlike traditional dark-leather steakhouses, Prime 112 brought high-energy South Beach atmosphere, bright lighting, celebrity-chef creativity and a chef-driven menu that treats sides (like the Truffled Lobster Mac n Cheese) as signature items in their own right. The format has since been widely imitated but Prime 112 remains the original.

How much does Prime 112 cost? What is the price range?

Prime 112 is a $$$$ fine-dining restaurant. Expect to spend $150-$300+ per person for dinner with drinks, tax and tip. Steak entrees range from $45 (8 oz. Filet Mignon) to $140 (48 oz. Porterhouse for two). Japanese A5 Kobe is priced at $35 per ounce. Signature sides run $14-$27, appetizers $19-$36. Lunch is slightly more approachable with burgers from $20 and sandwiches from $24.

What is the most famous dish at Prime 112?

The two most iconic Prime 112 dishes are the Truffled Lobster Mac n Cheese ($27) — a five-cheese mac enriched with Maine lobster and black truffle that has been widely credited with starting the upscale mac-and-cheese trend nationwide — and the 48 oz. Porterhouse for Two ($140), the flagship sharing steak. The Kobe Beef Sliders ($28) are also a perennial signature item from the lunch and appetizer menus.

Does Prime 112 have a dress code?

Prime 112 does not publish a strict formal dress code but it is an upscale fine-dining restaurant in the heart of South Beach. Smart-casual to business-casual is the norm — collared shirts for men, cocktail attire or smart casual for women. Beach attire and flip-flops are not appropriate. Miami Beach luxury dining standards apply.

Does Prime 112 take reservations?

Yes. Prime 112 accepts reservations online through OpenTable and through the Myles Restaurant Group website (prime112.com). The restaurant is consistently one of the most in-demand tables in Miami Beach and walk-in waits can be several hours on weekends. Reservations well in advance are strongly recommended, especially for Friday and Saturday evenings. Call (305) 532-8112 for same-day or special-occasion inquiries.

What are Prime 112's hours?

Prime 112 is open daily for lunch from 12 PM to 3 PM and for dinner beginning at 5:30 PM. The kitchen closes at midnight Sunday through Thursday and at 1 AM on Friday and Saturday. Prime Rib (20 oz., $53) is available on Sunday evenings only. Confirm current hours by calling (305) 532-8112.

What is the best steak to order at Prime 112?

The 48 oz. Porterhouse for Two ($140) is the signature sharer and a Miami Beach rite of passage. For a solo steak, the 22 oz. Bone-In Rib Eye ($74) is widely praised. For the ultimate splurge, the Japanese A5 Kobe (from $35/oz., or the 35 oz. Bone-In Rib Eye at $175) is among the finest beef available anywhere. Add bearnaise or Gorgonzola butter ($3-$4) to any cut. All USDA Prime beef is dry-aged 30 days in-house.

Where is Prime 112 located?

Prime 112 is located at 112 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139 — in the historic Brown's Hotel on South Beach's Ocean Drive strip, steps from the beach and the Art Deco district. Valet parking is available. The restaurant is part of the Myles Restaurant Group, which also operates Prime Italian, Big Pink, Prime Fish and Prime Hotel.

Does Prime 112 have a bar menu or lunch menu?

Yes on both. The full bar is open and the restaurant serves a lunch menu daily from 12-3 PM featuring sandwiches ($24-$32), burgers (10 oz. Kobe Hamburger from $20), tuna sliders, a Maine lobster roll ($29) and the full raw bar, plus all steak and seafood entrees. The lunch menu is notably more approachable in price for those who want the Prime 112 experience without a full dinner commitment. The Kobe Beef Hamburger ($20) and Keys Style Fried Grouper Sandwich ($24) are popular lunch picks.
