Starters & shareables

Schlafly Bottleworks starters worth ordering

The Bottleworks kitchen is best known for its beer cheese dip, soft pretzels and wings — all engineered to pair with a pint. The starters below anchor most table orders.

Brewpub classic

Soft Pretzels + Beer Cheese

House-baked pretzels with warm Schlafly beer cheese and grain mustard. The most-ordered starter. Order one per two people minimum.

Pub staple

Chicken Wings

Crispy wings with buffalo, BBQ or dry rub. The buffalo pairs well with the Kolsch or Hefeweizen; dry rub works best with the Pale Ale.

Shareable

Brewery Nachos

Full nacho plate with beer cheese — skippable if you're getting the pretzels, but worthwhile for a group of four or more.

Flatbreads

Schlafly Bottleworks flatbreads

Four flatbreads built on a crispy pub base. The Sausage and Roasted Pepper is a local favorite; the Seasonal Flatbread changes with the market and is often the best dish on the board.

Recommended

Sausage & Roasted Pepper

House Italian sausage, roasted red peppers, caramelized onion and provolone. Pairs well with the Schlafly IPA or Pale Ale.

Vegetarian

Margherita

Tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and basil. The simplest and lightest of the four. Good with the Hefeweizen or Kolsch.

Seasonal

Seasonal Flatbread

Changes with the harvest. Often the most interesting dish on the menu — ask your server. The kitchen takes this one seriously.

Bold

BBQ Chicken

Pulled chicken, smoky BBQ sauce, red onion and cilantro. Works with the Oatmeal Stout or IPA if you like contrast.

Burgers & sandwiches

Schlafly Bottleworks burgers and sandwiches

Seven options anchored by the Schlafly Burger and a solid black bean veggie option. All burgers use an 8 oz house-ground beef patty on a brioche bun.

Signature

Schlafly Burger

The house burger — 8 oz beef, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles and house sauce on brioche. Reliable and well-seasoned. Pairs with the Pale Ale.

Vegetarian

Black Bean Burger

House-made black bean patty, pepper jack, avocado, roasted tomato and chipotle mayo. One of the better veggie burgers at a St. Louis brewpub.

Bold

BBQ Bacon Burger

Beef, crispy bacon, cheddar, house BBQ sauce and onion rings. Best paired with the Oatmeal Stout for a full-circle moment.

Entrees

Schlafly Bottleworks signature entrees

Five entrees — most featuring Schlafly beer as a cooking ingredient. The Fish and Chips and Shepherd's Pie are the kitchen's most-cited dishes in St. Louis food coverage.

Most-ordered

Fish & Chips

Schlafly beer-battered cod, hand-cut fries, house tartar sauce and malt vinegar. The Kolsch batter is the classic choice — light, crispy and not greasy. Best with a cold Kolsch or Hefeweizen.

Comfort food

Shepherd's Pie

House-braised beef in a Schlafly Stout gravy, under a cap of creamy mashed potato baked golden. The best cold-weather dish on the menu. Pair with the Oatmeal Stout.

Beer-braised

Beer-Braised Brat Plate

House bratwurst braised in Schlafly Pale Ale, sauerkraut, grain mustard and pretzel bread. A St. Louis German-heritage classic. Pairs with the Pilsner or Kolsch.

Vegetarian

About Schlafly Beer

Missouri's largest independent craft brewery since 1991.

Schlafly Beer — formally the Saint Louis Brewery — was founded in 1991 by Tom Schlafly and Dan Kopman as one of the first craft breweries in Missouri. The original Tap Room in downtown St. Louis was the first new brewpub in Missouri since Prohibition. The Bottleworks in Maplewood opened in 2003 as the production brewery and second pub location.

Schlafly remains independently owned and is the largest craft brewery in Missouri by volume. The brewery is known for a wide range of year-round and seasonal styles — the Pale Ale is the flagship, the Hefeweizen and Oatmeal Stout are year-round staples, and seasonal releases (Pumpkin Ale in fall, Christmas Ale in winter, Kolsch in summer) are among the most anticipated in the St. Louis market.

The Bottleworks also hosts Hoptoberfest, one of St. Louis's largest craft beer festivals, typically held in late September or early October.

The kitchen rotates seasonal specials using local produce and adjusts the menu by season.

What beers does Schlafly have on tap at the Bottleworks?

Schlafly Bottleworks typically pours the full core lineup on tap, including the Pale Ale, Hefeweizen, Oatmeal Stout, Kolsch, IPA and Pilsner. Schlafly has two primary St. Louis locations. The Tap Room (2100 Locust St, downtown St. Louis) is the original brewpub, opened in 1991 in a historic building, with a more intimate feel and downtown location. The Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Ave, Maplewood) is larger, opened in 2003, functions as the main production brewery and has a more spacious pub environment with a bigger outdoor patio. Both serve full menus and the Schlafly beer lineup; Bottleworks hosts more large-format events and has the main brewery tanks on-site.

Does Schlafly Bottleworks host events?

Yes. Schlafly Bottleworks is a frequent venue for St. Louis events, including Schlafly's annual Hoptoberfest (a large fall beer festival) and a summer Strassenfest. The restaurant also hosts private events in its indoor and patio spaces. Check schlafly.com/events for the current calendar.

Is Schlafly Beer independently owned?

Yes. Schlafly Beer (Saint Louis Brewery) is Missouri's largest independent craft brewery and has remained independent since its founding in 1991. It is not part of a national chain or owned by a large beverage conglomerate — this is a defining part of its identity and local appeal in St. Louis.

Are there vegetarian or vegan options at Schlafly Bottleworks?

Yes. The menu includes several vegetarian-friendly options — the black bean burger, margherita flatbread, mac and cheese, beer cheese dip, pretzels and a seasonal grain bowl (vegan).
