A 15-year comeback

The Awesome Blossom is back at Chili's (2024 permanent return)

The Awesome Blossom — Chili's original deep-fried whole-onion appetizer, fanned out and battered into petals — was pulled from the menu in 2009 as part of a calorie-driven menu reset. (At the time it clocked in north of 2,700 calories, which the chain wasn't comfortable selling against a wave of national nutrition coverage.) For 15 years it stayed off the menu. Outback Steakhouse's Bloomin' Onion — designed in the 1990s to compete with the Blossom — became the default-association for the whole onion-flower category, and Chili's lost the dish that arguably defined its appetizer identity.

In 2024 Chili's brought the Awesome Blossom back permanently — at $9.99 with the signature blossom sauce — after years of fan demand and a viral TikTok campaign. The return was one of the most successful casual-dining menu revivals since Taco Bell brought back the Mexican Pizza in 2022, and it pushed appetizer mix back up across the chain.

The Blossom is now eligible as a Triple Dipper pick (as Awesome Blossom Petals) and as a starter upgrade in the Premium 3 for Me tier — meaning you can either order the full $9.99 Blossom solo or fold the Petals into the $15.99 Triple Dipper or the $13.99 Premium 3 for Me.

  • Original launch: Mid-1990s — the dish Outback's Bloomin' Onion was designed against
  • Pulled: 2009 (calorie/health reset)
  • Returned: 2024 (permanent)
  • Price: $9.99 full Blossom with blossom sauce
  • Triple Dipper eligible: Awesome Blossom Petals counts as a pick
  • Premium 3 for Me starter: Petals upgrade available
Margaritas & cocktails

The Chili's bar menu — Presidente, Casamigos & the $5 Margarita of the Month

Chili's runs the strongest margarita lineup in mainstream casual dining. The Presidente Margarita ($8.99) is the chain's signature — Patrón Silver + Sauza Hornitos Reposado + triple sec, on the rocks with a salt rim, shaken tableside since the 1990s. Below it sits the $5 Margarita of the Month — a rotating featured flavor every 30 days that's available all day, not just at Happy Hour. Premium-tier Casamigos ($9.99) and oversized Texas-Sized ($11.99) round out the lineup.

  • Oversized Presidente-style margarita
  • 24-oz Texas-sized glass
  • Same tequila build as Presidente
  • Salt rim, lime

Roughly 2.5x the volume of the regular Presidente.

Drink pricing and Happy Hour availability are subject to state liquor law and franchisee discretion. Some Chili's locations (mall stores, dry-county units) operate without a full bar. The $5 Margarita of the Month is the cheapest cocktail at any major casual-dining chain — a deal Applebee's only narrowly undercuts with the $1 DOLLARITA, but on a much smaller pour size.

Dietary & allergen guide

Vegetarian, "Guiltless Grill" under-650 picks & allergen notes

Chili's runs the Guiltless Grill sub-menu — every item under roughly 650 calories — which has anchored the chain's lighter-eating positioning since the 1990s. The vegetarian footprint is moderate: most entrées are protein-led, but Cheese Quesadillas, Black Bean Burger swaps (limited markets) and several appetizers (Awesome Blossom, Fried Pickles, Texas Cheese Fries, Crispy Cheddar Bites, Mozzarella Sticks) work vegetarian-as-served.

Gluten-free orders take more work — there's no certified-gluten-free area in the kitchen, and items share prep surfaces. Chili's publishes an allergen guide on chilis.com that flags cross-contact risks per item.

Cross-contact possible. Confirm with the restaurant if you have a serious allergy.

  • Guiltless Grill picks: Sirloin 6oz (510 cal, $15.99), Santa Fe Chicken Salad (640 cal, $13.99)
  • Vegetarian appetizer: Awesome Blossom ($9.99), Skillet Queso ($7.99), Fried Pickles ($8.49), Mozzarella Sticks ($8.99)
  • Vegetarian entrée: Cheese Quesadilla ($10.99), Side House Salad ($4.99)
  • Pepper Pals vegetarian: Kids' Cheese Pizza ($5.99), Kids' Mac & Cheese ($5.99)
  • Lower-calorie tip: Sub steamed broccoli for fries — drops 200–350 cal on most entrées with no upcharge.

Where to find a Chili's

Chili's operates approximately 1,600 restaurants in the United States across all 50 states, plus an international footprint in roughly 30 countries (Mexico, Canada, India, Saudi Arabia, the UK and others). It's one of the largest casual-dining chains in the U.S. by units, second only to Applebee's in the American grill & bar category.

The brand is a subsidiary of Brinker International (NYSE: EAT), based in Dallas, Texas — where the first Chili's opened in 1975. Approximately 58% of Chili's U.S. units are franchisee-operated and the rest are corporate-owned, which makes pricing more consistent across markets than at Applebee's (~99% franchised) or TGI Fridays. About Chili's Grill & Bar

The Dallas grill that built casual dining on ribs, fajitas and the margarita.

Larry Lavine opened the first Chili's in Dallas, Texas in 1975 — a converted postal-station building serving burgers, chili and a small Tex-Mex menu. Five decades on, Chili's is one of the largest casual-dining chains in the U.S. and the category-defining American Tex-Mex grill & bar.

The modern Chili's identity is built on three pillars: the $10.99 3 for Me Meal (the cheapest one-person sit-down combo in U.S. casual dining), the Triple Dipper (the viral 2024 TikTok hit and the only pick-3-apps-builder in the category), and a string of signature items that have anchored the menu for decades — the Baby Back Ribs (1985 jingle, "I want my baby back, baby back, baby back ribs…"), sizzling-skillet Fajitas, the Awesome Blossom (returned 2024 after a 15-year absence), the Presidente Margarita (since the 1990s) and the Molten Chocolate Cake.

The chain is a subsidiary of Brinker International (NYSE: EAT), which also owns Maggiano's Little Italy. Headquarters: Dallas, Texas. Approximately 58% of U.S. units are franchisee-operated; the rest are corporate-owned.

The Triple Dipper is $15.99 and lets you build your own appetizer trio — pick any three items from a 14+ item picklist plus three dipping sauces. Eligible picks include Mozzarella Sticks, Crispy Cheddar Bites, Boneless Wings (Honey-Chipotle, Buffalo, BBQ, Mango-Habanero, Dry Rub), Big Mouth Bites, Southwestern Eggrolls, Fried Pickles, Awesome Blossom Petals, Chicken Crispers, Loaded Boneless Wings, Fried Mozzarella and a Half Order of Wings. The Triple Dipper went viral on TikTok in 2024 — the 'Triple Dipper trend' — and briefly took over the chain's check averages. At $15.99 for three apps you'd otherwise pay $24–30 for à la carte, it's the strongest per-dollar appetizer deal on the menu.

Is the Awesome Blossom back at Chili's?

Yes — the Awesome Blossom returned in 2024 after a 15-year absence. The original deep-fried onion blossom (the dish Outback's Bloomin' Onion was modeled to compete with) was pulled from the menu in 2009, and Chili's brought it back permanently in 2024 after years of fan demand and a viral TikTok campaign. It's $9.99 for the full Blossom with signature blossom sauce, and Awesome Blossom Petals also count as an eligible pick in both the Triple Dipper and the Premium 3 for Me tier. The return is one of the most successful menu revivals in casual dining since Taco Bell brought back the Mexican Pizza.

How much are Chili's Fajitas?

Chili's Fajitas are $16.99 for Chicken, $18.99 for Steak, $19.99 for Shrimp and $24.99 for the Combo Fajitas (Chicken + Steak + Shrimp on one skillet). Every Fajita order arrives on a sizzling cast-iron skillet over grilled peppers and onions, with rice, black beans, three fresh flour tortillas, pico de gallo, sour cream, shredded cheese and a side of Mexican rice. The sizzling presentation has been a Chili's brand signature since the 1980s. A lunch-portion Chicken Fajitas runs $11.99 from 11am–3pm Mon–Fri.

What's a Presidente Margarita?

The Presidente Margarita is Chili's signature cocktail at $8.99. It's made with Patrón Silver tequila, Sauza Hornitos Reposado, triple sec and house margarita mix, shaken tableside and served on the rocks with a salt rim. The Presidente has been Chili's flagship margarita since the 1990s and is the dish most identified with the chain after the Baby Back Ribs. A Texas-Sized Presidente ($11.99) supersizes the pour into a 24-oz glass. The $5 Margarita of the Month rotates monthly as a separate featured pour — Tropical Sunrise, Strawberry, Mango and other rotating flavors.

Are Chili's Baby Back Ribs all-you-can-eat?

No — Chili's Baby Back Ribs are not all-you-can-eat. A full slab runs $28.99 (Original BBQ) or $29.99 (Honey-Chipotle / Memphis Dry Rub); a half slab is $19.99–$20.99. Each rack comes with fries (or homestyle fries) and coleslaw. The Ribs are the dish that launched the famous 1985 jingle ("I want my baby back, baby back, baby back ribs…") and are still one of the chain's three most-ordered entrées. For the unlimited-rib experience you'd want Texas Roadhouse's All-You-Can-Eat Ribs special on select nights, not Chili's.

Is Chili's cheaper than Applebee's?

On the single-person combo tier, Chili's is cheaper. The Chili's $10.99 3 for Me Meal (appetizer + entrée + drink, one person) is the lowest-priced one-person combo in casual dining — Applebee's doesn't have a direct equivalent. For two people, however, Applebee's 2 for $25 (two entrées + one shared app) usually edges out Chili's two-person 3 for Me (~$22 for two combos, drinks included) on total food volume since you're getting two full-size entrées. À la carte burgers, ribs and fajitas are within $0.50–$2 across the two chains. Chili's also wins on cocktail pricing (the $5 Margarita of the Month plus the $8.99 Presidente) and on the appetizer-builder game (Triple Dipper).

Does Chili's have a Happy Hour?

Yes — most Chili's locations run a Happy Hour from 3pm to 6pm Monday through Friday with $2 off draft beers, $5 House Margaritas and discounted bar appetizers. Some markets also run a Reverse Happy Hour from 9pm to close with the same pricing. Happy Hour pricing and availability is set franchisee-by-franchisee and is subject to state liquor law — confirm at your local store. The $5 Margarita of the Month tends to run all day, not just at Happy Hour, and the Presidente Margarita ($8.99) is a fixed price that doesn't change with daypart.

What time does the Chili's lunch combo end?

The Chili's Lunch Combo menu runs 11am to 3pm, Monday through Friday only. These are lunch-portion entrées with built-in soup or side combinations at lower price points: $9.99 for Soup + Half Salad, $9.99 for Quesadilla + Soup, $10.49 for the Burger + Side combo, $11.99 for the lunch-portion Chicken Fajitas. Weekend lunch defaults to the full all-day menu at standard pricing. The all-day 3 for Me Meal at $10.99 is the closest dinner-time equivalent if you miss the Lunch Combo window.

How does My Chili's Rewards work?

My Chili's Rewards is a free loyalty program — sign up via the Chili's app or chilis.com and you get a free order of Chips & Salsa immediately, plus a free dessert on your birthday. Frequent visitors earn a free kids' meal, free appetizer or free non-alcoholic beverage on a rotating cadence (one freebie roughly every 2–3 visits). Rewards work at dine-in, takeout and Chili's-direct delivery; third-party delivery (DoorDash, Uber Eats) typically does not earn rewards credit. The program also surfaces app-exclusive offers like $0 delivery weeks and limited-time bonus rewards on Triple Dipper and 3 for Me orders.
